Corporate Practice Group

Group Chair: Gernot Stenger / email: gstenger@aliantlaw.com

The Corporate Practice Group continues to serve as a forum for deep legal insight and business development across borders. Members from a range of regions—Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa—have engaged in discussions on topics ranging from contract formalities and jurisdictional oddities to outbound referral strategies and the evolving corporate regulatory environment. New jurisdictions have joined the group, bringing fresh perspectives on mergers and acquisitions, cross-border deals, and corporate governance.

A major initiative currently underway is the “Shocking List” project—an effort to gather surprising or unique corporate law insights from across member jurisdictions. The goal: to create a practical reference tool for both clients and network professionals. So far, the list has surfaced everything from unexpected tax rules to strict statutory procedures. Additional projects include a comparative study of anti-corruption laws and a review of emerging corporate sustainability frameworks.

Members continue to build connections through joint engagements, webinars, and regional business referrals. A number of cross-border collaborations have emerged directly from the group’s efforts, with members exchanging opportunities and sharing updates on their jurisdictions. With these initiatives gaining momentum, the Corporate Practice Group remains one of the most active and strategically impactful groups in the network.

Labour & Employment Practice Group

Group Chair: Elisa Noto / email: enoto@aliantlaw.com

The Labour & Employment Practice Group is expanding rapidly, now encompassing representation from around 20 countries—from the U.S. to China. In the first quarter of 2025, new jurisdictions joined the group, including both legal and accounting professionals, strengthening its multidisciplinary value. The group has also implemented a more structured format for its meetings, with a rotating host and co-host system, set agendas, and follow-up actions. This approach has elevated engagement and added real clarity to discussions. Plans are underway to launch an annual meeting calendar, ensuring even greater strategic alignment going forward.

Among the group’s most anticipated initiatives is a white paper geared towards helping foreign companies setting up businesses abroad choose the most efficient hiring model. Contributors from over 15 countries are preparing jurisdiction-specific summaries to guide foreign investors through legal and tax considerations in structuring employment—from direct hires to agency and contractor arrangements. These insights draw on the collective experience of employment lawyers and accountants alike, showcasing the powerful synergies between both professions.

To complement group efforts, members are busy posting on LinkedIn and engaging with one another to boost visibility. These pieces will compliment Aliant’s marketing strategy and be shared across both internal and external platforms. With contributions from every corner of the globe, the Labour & Employment Practice Group is positioning itself as a practical, go-to resource for companies entering new markets—and a valuable asset to the wider network.

Litigation Practice Group

Group Chair: Morgan Jamet / email: mjamet@arst-avocats.com

The Litigation Practice Group continues to thrive as a global forum for legal collaboration. Recent meetings have featured jurisdictional updates from new members, who bring experience in litigation, compliance, and cross-border regulation. The group has discussed a wide range of developments, from the UK’s updated Arbitration Act and international service of process rules to emerging litigation in areas such as cryptocurrency fraud and economic sanctions.

Several collaborative projects are underway. A comparative article on US and EU sanctions is in development, and a global litigation capabilities brochure is being compiled through a member-driven questionnaire initiative. Members have also formed a working group focused on handling crypto-related litigation—demonstrating the group’s proactive approach to emerging risks and trends.

As the group looks ahead, upcoming initiatives include a series of brief country-focused litigation updates and an in-person event in Austria this spring. These efforts, coupled with regular knowledge sharing and cross-border referrals, have positioned the Litigation Practice Group as a vital contributor to both client service and network connectivity.

Private Client Practice Group

Group Chair: Jacob Stein / email: jstein@aliantlaw.com

The Private Practice Group continues to distinguish itself through high-level collaboration and international expertise. A cornerstone initiative currently underway is a global white paper on foreign direct investment (FDI), offering detailed legal and tax structuring guidance for inbound investment into real estate and operating businesses across more than ten jurisdictions. The final product is being positioned as a client-ready resource and will be published through both Aliant’s channels and third-party media platforms, further amplifying the group’s thought leadership.

In recent sessions, members have shared insights on trust and estate planning, family office structuring, and global taxation. Case studies explored innovative structures like asset management foundations, with discussion centered on privacy, tax efficiency, and compliance across regions. Participants also compared trust frameworks across different legal systems, offering perspectives on how to tailor structures for high-net-worth clients in various jurisdictions.

Practical collaboration remains a defining strength of the group. Members continue to share referrals, work on joint articles, and collaborate on real-world client matters involving nominee arrangements, cross-border banking, and international tax compliance. With a dynamic blend of legal and accounting professionals, the Private Practice Group is reinforcing its position as a top-tier resource for cross-border planning within the network.

Real Estate Practice Group

Group Chair: Claudia Bortolani / email: cbortolani@aliantlaw.com

The Real Estate Practice Group has adopted a dynamic meeting structure that combines clarity with visibility. Each session is led by a different member, supported by a co-host who introduces the speaker and their firm. Meetings now conclude with a defined deliverable: the speaker drafts a LinkedIn post summarizing the discussion, which is reviewed and shared across group channels. This process has helped strengthen connections, increase content visibility, and support broader business development.

Recent meetings have focused on real estate trends in Europe and Latin America. Members shared updates on regulatory changes such as divisible mortgages and new opportunities in surface right registrations. Others contributed country comparisons on mortgage laws, land ownership rules, and foreign investment frameworks. Members also presented investment data from markets including Italy, Germany, and Nigeria, highlighting emerging trends such as ESG-driven tenant demand, student housing, and high-yield retail spaces.

Looking forward, the group is working to expand its content efforts across LinkedIn and Aliant’s blog. Several new articles and posts are in the pipeline, and members continue to be encouraged to suggest topics, engage with content, and make introductions. With a growing base of global contributors and a structured platform for engagement, the Real Estate Practice Group is steadily positioning itself as a strategic engine of insight and opportunity.
