Update on ChatGPT in Italy

Other countries have followed the Italian example.

Investigations and inquiries into the privacy of ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence developed by OpenAI, are spreading rapidly. Following the Italian Data Protection Authority’s findings that led to the blockage of Chat GPT in Italy, other countries have begun to investigate this software. Canada has opened an investigation into OpenAI following a complaint regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information without consent. France, Ireland, and Germany have also taken steps to follow the Italian authority’s lead.

OpenAI has until April 30th to comply, if it wants to be accessible in Italy.

OpenAI has expressed a willingness to collaborate with the Italian authority to resolve the issues regarding Chat GPT, while emphasizing their commitment to complying with personal data protection regulations. The Garante della Privacy has announced that Chat GPT can be accessible again in Italy, provided that OpenAI satisfies the data protection requirements by April 30th. These requirements include protecting users’ sensitive data and respecting their rights, as well as ensuring the privacy of both users and non-users of the platform.
